New Delhi| The Central Government claimed that it stands by its stand in the matter of holding simultaneous elections from Panchayat to Lok Sabha. The law related to this will be implemented in any case during this tenure. The BJP-led government promised to implement the ‘One Nation, One Election’ Law in 2014, when Prime Minister Modi was sworn in for the first time.

During his first two terms, the PM Narendra Modi-led government fulfilled its key promises, including the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, abolishing Section 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, and implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act.

After the Ramnath Kovind Committee report was submitted, continuous brainstorming is taking place to move forward towards one nation, one election. This is a policy matter and is necessary in the national interest. Of the 47 Parties that have put forward views before the Committee, 32 have endorsed it. In such a situation, the law to hold simultaneous elections will be implemented during this tenure of the Modi government. BJP is also hoping to garner support from other political parties. Many opposition parties and Chief Ministers of opposition ruled states have opposed the idea of one country, one election.

The high-level committee on ‘One Nation-One Election’ led by former President Ram Nath Kovind, in its report, said that frequent elections create an environment of uncertainty and influence policy decisions, adding that simultaneous elections holding will increase certainty in policy making. Highlighting the benefits of simultaneous elections, the committee said that ‘One Nation, One Election’ ensures ease and convenience for voters, protects voters from fatigue and facilitates more voting.

The process of conducting the census will be started soon. A government source rejected PM Modi’s criticism of attending a religious program at the house of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. He asked, is the judiciary so weak that judges will be affected by a meeting? It is better to meet in public than in secret. The government will not back down from the bill brought to change the Waqf law. The source said, the government will neither compromise with the spirit of the Constitution nor accept the policy of appeasement. It will soon be given legal status
