Maruti Suzuki India made a record, exported 3 million vehicles

New Delhi| Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country’s largest car company, has achieved a new record of exporting 3 million vehicles so far since it started operations in India. The company issued a statement saying the 3 millionth historic vehicle was part of a consignment of 1,053 units that left Gujarat’s Pipavav port on Sunday, including models like Celerio, Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Ciaz, Dezire and S-Presso.

Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki, said, “Our exports from India have increased 3 times compared to 4 years ago”. Maruti Suzuki has set a target of diversifying vehicle exports by 2030-31 and pushing it to 7.5 lakh units Maruti Suzuki started exporting vehicles from India in 1986. The first major shipment of 500 cars was sent to Hungary in September 1987. The company had achieved the first milestone of exporting 1 million vehicles in FY 2012-13. After this, in the financial year 2020-21, in less than 9 years, the next 1 million units of exports touched the mark. The company has touched the figure of next 1 million units, namely 2 million to 3 million units of export in just 3 years and 9 months.

Takeuchi said, “The cumulative export of 3 million units reflects India’s automobile manufacturing excellence and is a shining example of Brand India on the global stage”. We thank the Government of India for implementing encouraging policies and trade agreements with some markets to enhance export growth.

He further said, “By joining the Government of India’s flagship ‘Make in India’ initiative, Maruti Suzuki is committed to localization and increasing exports”. Currently, 40 percent of the passenger vehicles exported from India belong to Maruti Suzuki, which makes us the number one vehicle exporter in the country.

Maruti Suzuki exported 1,81,444 units in the April – October period in FY 2024-25, up 17.4 per cent over the same period last year. Currently the company exports 17 models to about 100 countries. America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East are important export markets for the company.
