UP Assembly Session: Minister Suresh Khanna befitting reply to the wrong figures of the opposition

Lucknow| On the second day of the winter session of the UP Legislature, Cabinet Minister Suresh Khanna gave a befitting reply to the opposition presenting wrong figures on the issue of violence and harassment of women. He said that law and order has become strongest under the Yogi government. In the last seven and a half years, there has been a decline in all types of crimes including women in UP. The state government has also been most successful in punishing the criminals.

He replied to the opposition’s questions, saying that between 1 January 2024 and 30 November, 4,18,504 complaints were filed on the 1090 Women Power Line. It dealt with 4,09,912 complaints. Its ratio is 97.95 percent. At the same time, action is being taken to dispose of the pending 8,592 cases.

Cabinet Minister Suresh Khanna said that there has been a continuous decline in the cases of dowry deaths. In the year 2017, 2,524 cases were reported. From 1 January 2024 to 31 October, 1,418 cases were reported. In the year 2023, 2,061 incidents of dowry deaths were reported. As far as punishing the criminals is concerned, the government has strengthened the prosecution and made the conviction happen. Till now no government has done this in the history of Uttar Pradesh government.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said that the POCSO Act resulted in 415 convictions in 2017. At the same time, 631 people were sentenced in 2018. Success was achieved in sentencing 665 people in the year 2019, 535 in 2020, 1,230 in 2021, 2,313 in 2022 and 2,841 in 2023 and just now 2,440 from 1 January to 15 December this year. In a special campaign, 48 death sentences were carried out from 1 July 2023 to 11 December 2024. In the same period, success was achieved in 6,065 cases with life imprisonment, 1,046 cases with 20 years and more, 73 cases with 15 to 19 years, 3,610 cases with 10 to 14 years, 5 to 9 years in 5,564 cases and less than five years in 22,298 cases

He said that ever since the Indian Code of Justice came into force, it has punished 29 people from July 1 to December 12. Suresh Khanna, citing NCRB data, said that till now the report till the year 2022 is available, according to which there has been a decline in crime related to women in every region. UP ranks 24th in the entire country in terms of rape. In this way, 23 states of the country are ahead of UP.

Suresh Khanna said that UP ranks 17th in terms of Section-354. Additionally looking at murder cases, 245 cases were reported from 1 January 2024 to 30 November 2024. At the same time, 175 cases were reported in 2022, 141 in 2023 and 126 so far in 2024. It has recorded a decline of 48.57 per cent. Dowry deaths against women have likewise decreased by 16.68 per cent. Misdemeanors have decreased by 25.34 per cent, outrages of modesty by 14.31 per cent. The Indian Penal Code (IPC) has 19 states above Uttar Pradesh in crime.
