67% of engineers fear job loss due to AI, 87% admitted – ‘Skill development necessary to save career’

New Delhi| AI is causing 67% of engineers to fear job loss. Great Learning’s research report 2024-25 said, 67.5% of engineers believed their jobs were being adversely affected by AI. While 87.5% say that skill development is more important to secure a career due to the extreme upgrade of technology.

AI’s ability to automate routine tasks and perform complex data analysis is reshaping the engineering landscape. According to estimates, 20-40% of engineering works could be automated over the next decade. In addition 89% of engineers plan to acquire new hard skills. AI-ML is the most sought after area in this. Only 10% of the 1.5 million engineering graduates in India have job prospects this year. The employability of engineering graduates in the country is over 60%, but only 45% of graduates meet industry standards.
