Vehicle sales: Highest ever sold in 2024 of 4.3 million vehicles; Maruti breaks record after six years

New Delhi| A record 4.3 million vehicles were sold in the year 2024 due to continued demand for sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and increased car sales in rural markets. Simultaneously, the vehicle industry surpassed its previous best of 41.1 lakh car sales sold in 2023. Last year, major companies like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Toyota Kirloskar and Kia recorded their highest ever annual sales. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. Retail sales of German company Audi’s cars in the luxury segment declined by 26.6 per cent to 5,816 units during the full year in 2024 compared to a year earlier. The company had sold a total of 7,931 vehicles in 2023.

Sales of two-wheelers and commercial vehicles also registered a boom in December, 2024. Sales of Suzuki motorcycle two-wheelers rose 22 percent to 96,804 units.
