Uttar Pradesh is moving rapidly towards ‘One District, One Medical College’: CM Yogi
Lucknow| Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday participated in the fourth foundation day celebrations of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences. On this occasion, he released the annual report and inaugurated the newly constructed building.
He said that for the first time the Central and State Governments are constructing medical colleges on PPP mode. Five years ago, eastern Uttar Pradesh was suffering from encephalitis. There were between 1,200 and 1,500 deaths between July 15 and November 15. BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur alone had between 500 and 700 deaths. This sequence had been going on for the last 40 years. During this period, 50 thousand children died, but previous governments had nothing to do with it. When facilities had to be provided to stop this, he used to indulge in corruption. This was a failure of the system. While being an MP, I raised the issue from the streets to the House, after which the work started.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave AIIMS to Gorakhpur to curb encephalitis. When I became Chief Minister in 2017, it became my responsibility to end it. Work was started on it and it was taken over in 2019. The result of this is that today Eastern Uttar Pradesh has become free from encephalitis. This time also a survey was conducted twice regarding encephalitis in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, in which it was revealed that not a single child had died. All this could be done through better coordination and dialogue. Today encephalitis has been eliminated, but it is regrettable that till now no study paper has been written on it, whereas it is a model of success.
CM Yogi said that when the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, Team 11 was formed and controlled. This was made possible by the experience we gained after successfully resolving encephalitis. This experience paid off in overcoming COVID-19. Today Uttar Pradesh is moving rapidly towards ‘One District, One Medical College’. There will be no shortage of doctors in the coming 5 to 7 years. All PHCs and CHCs of the state will get doctors. Along with this, RML, SGPGI, KGMU and other institutions will get good specialist doctors. For this teamwork is essential.
Chief Minister Yogi said that in the Rishi tradition, the seed becoming a tree is called culture, whereas the rotting and destruction of the seed is called deformity. Our culture is the basis of development of life. As per Rishi tradition, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences is in front of everyone from a hospital to an institute. The institute is emerging as an excellent center of medical health in North India. Lucknow is the largest city of Uttar Pradesh. It is inhabited by a population of about 7 million. RML is identified as the gateway to eastern Uttar Pradesh. It is in front of us, growing from a hospital to a large institution containing 1,300 beds.
