PM Modi gets a grand welcome in Singapore after concluding his visit to Brunei

New Delhi| Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Singapore after completing a 2-day bilateral visit to Brunei. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Singapore on a two-day visit with the aim of deepening the strategic partnership with the South East Asian nation. Prime Minister Modi will now be in Singapore for 2 days as part of his fifth official visit to this South-East Asian country at the invitation of his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong after finishing his first bilateral visit to Brunei.

Before going to Singapore, PM Modi made a historic visit to Brunei. He became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Brunei. During this period, many important agreements were also signed between India and Brunei. PM Modi stressed on increasing cooperation with Brunei in the areas of defence, security, trade and culture. Earlier, the Prime Minister described his visit to Brunei as meaningful and said that it has ushered in a new era to further strengthen India-Brunei relations, which contributes to improving our planet. Prime Minister Modi, who is on a bilateral visit, is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Brunei. He held bilateral talks with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. In this dialogue, other topics including defence, trade and energy were discussed and views were exchanged on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived at Singapore on the invitation of his counterpart Lawrence Wong as part of his fifth official visit to the South-East Asian country. Modi will be officially welcomed at the Parliament House in Singapore on Thursday during his two-day visit. On this day he will also meet Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. In a statement issued before leaving for Singapore, Modi said, “I look forward to talks with Singapore on measures to deepen our strategic partnership, especially in the new and emerging areas of advanced manufacturing, digitalization and sustainable development.” The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement in New Delhi saying, “the two leaders will take stock of the progress of the India-Singapore Strategic Partnership and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.”

PM Modi last visited Singapore in the year 2018. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and other government officials accompanied him on the latest visit. Apart from Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Modi will also meet senior minister Lee Hsien Loong and emeritus senior minister Goh Chok Tong. Wong and Loong will host separate banquets in Modi’s honour. Modi will also meet Singapore business leaders and interact with people associated with the country’s semiconductor system.
