PM Modi extends Global Tiger Day greetings, says India committed to science-based conservation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended greetings on Global Tiger Day, saying India remains committed to science-based conservation, community participation and sustainable development to strengthen tiger protection.

In a series of posts on X, PM Modi said India was proud to be home to nearly 70 per cent of the world’s tiger population, attributing the country’s conservation success to its centuries-old tradition of living in harmony with nature.

“Greetings to all wildlife enthusiasts on Global Tiger Day. The people of India are proud of the fact that we are home to almost 70% of the global tiger population. India’s tiger conservation efforts are inspired by our centuries-old culture of living in harmony with nature and powered by the collective will of our people,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Modi said the government would continue to focus on scientific conservation practices while encouraging community participation and sustainable development.

“We also reaffirm our commitment to science-based conservation, community participation and sustainable development that strengthens tiger conservation,” the PM said.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the contribution of frontline forest staff, scientists and conservationists towards protecting the country’s tiger population.

“The efforts and dedication of our forest personnel, scientists and conservationists have also played a key role in tiger protection. In that spirit, India remains committed to empowering local communities and reducing human-wildlife conflict,” he said.

India is home to nearly 70 per cent of the world’s wild tigers and has recorded a steady rise in its tiger population over the years through sustained conservation measures under Project Tiger and other wildlife protection initiatives.
