Historic effort of Yogi government towards cow protection in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow| Taking a historic step in the field of cow protection and cow rearing, the government of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has brought the state among the leading states of the country. Schemes are being implemented on a large scale in the state for the conservation and maintenance of cattle, which are not only providing welfare to the cattle but are also strengthening the farmers and rural economy.

A total of 6,708 rural go-shelter sites are being operated in Uttar Pradesh. At all these sites 100% tagged gochar land has been used to care for the bovines, covering an area of 9,091.21 hectares. Green fodder production has been given priority in this land, so that the problem of nutrition of cattle can be solved.

Of the Tagged Gochar land, green fodder has been sown on an area of 5,465.93 hectares, which is 60.12% of the total area. It has 1,007.99 hectares of Napier grass cultivated. Whereas, Barsim and Jwari fodder have been produced on an area of 4,457.93 hectares. This effort is a big step towards ensuring nutritious food for the cattle.

Most of the cow shelter sites in the state are in the districts Jalaun (396), Hardoi (357), Hamirpur (319), Banda (309) Chitrakoot (306), Badaun (297) Unnao (291), Mahoba (266), where green fodder is being produced on a large scale.

While distributing sorghum fodder seeds to the farmers, the Yogi government has allocated 7,404.41 quintals of seeds in the districts. Also, 810.80 quintals of certified Barseem fodder seed has been provided. The objective of these efforts is to make cow shelters self-reliant for fodder production and to motivate farmers to cultivate fodder.

Napier root slips (roots) are also being distributed to farmers to encourage cattle based organic farming. So far, 3.5 million roots have been allocated. This will not only promote organic farming, but will also see positive results towards environmental protection.

Due to these efforts of Yogi government, not only has success been achieved in preserving the cattle, but it is also proving beneficial for the rural economy. Dung and urine obtained from cow shelters are being used as organic fertilizers, due to which farmers are getting cheap and effective fertilizers. The efforts of Yogi Adityanath government are also realizing the goal of self-reliance and sustainable development in rural areas.
