New Delhi| The High Court granted relief to former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The court on Friday granted bail to Soren in a money laundering case related to the alleged land scam. The court reserved its decision on Soren’s bail plea on June 13. Soren’s senior lawyer Arunabh Chaudhary said that Soren has been granted bail and maybe realized by tomorrow. The court said that he is not guilty and there is no suspicion of any offense being committed by the petitioner while he was released on bail.
Soren, the working president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 in connection with its investigation into the money laundering case. Soren (48) is currently in Birsa Munda jail.
The investigation against Soren is linked to 8.86 acres of land in Ranchi. ED alleged that the land was illegally seized and the agency filed a chargesheet in the special PMLA court here on March 30 against Soren, Prasad and Soren’s alleged ‘frontmen’ Raj Kumar Pahan, and Binod Singh, the former chief minister’s alleged aide. Soren filed a bail plea before a special court in Ranchi, alleging that his arrest was politically motivated and part of a well-planned conspiracy.
