‘Government will enhance economic growth through strong partnership with states’: Piyush Goyal
New Delhi| Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday expressed the government’s commitment to promote economic growth through strong partnerships with state governments. Chairing the third meeting of the reconstituted Trade Board, the Union Commerce and Industry Minister stressed that the government’s initiatives are playing an important role in taking India towards a more transparent, efficient and sustainable trade environment. This will benefit the country’s economy.
He also launched the Jansunwai portal of the Commerce Department. It is designed to streamline communication between stakeholders and authorities. It provides a direct and transparent channel for addressing issues related to trade and industry. The portal provides on-demand video conferencing services, in addition to fixed video conference links for regular, scheduled conversations.
According to the ministry, the reach of the portal extends to various offices and autonomous bodies under the Commerce Department such as DGFT, Coffee Board, Tea Board, Spices Board, Rubber Board, APEDA, MPEDA, ITPO and EIC. The Minister discussed the steps taken with the aim of enhancing the role of the Commerce Department in promoting employment and state level economic development in the states. The session also included presentations from the state governments of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. It showcased export promotion and ease of doing business, interventions and state-level schemes and their achievements. Ministers from 10 state governments participated in this session.
Minister Goyal also inaugurated a revised in-house Smile-ERP system as well as the new online service portal of ECGC. The ministry said that these innovations are an important leap towards paperless processing and faceless service delivery. This will benefit both exporters and banks.
