Center of Excellence for Quantum and 6 G Technology to be built in India

New Delhi| To strengthen India’s position in 6 G and quantum technology, an agreement has been signed by Telecom Center of Excellence (TCOE) India and Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) of Karnataka to set up a Center of Excellence (CoE). According to the information given by the Ministry of Communications, VTU – Visvesvaraya Research and Innovation Foundation (VRIF) Bengaluru aims to enhance India’s progress in these sectors.

The CoE will be designed on a hub and spoke model basis. TCOE India will serve as a central hub. According to the Government, COE will act as a main facility for research and development, taking advantage of the intellectual and infrastructural potential of the 228 college associated with VTU.

Cutting edge research in quantum and 5 G and 6 G technology will be promoted through CoE. Besides, partnership and innovation will also be encouraged. Partnerships will be enhanced in the core entities working on telecom standardisation in CoE such as Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC), Bharat 6 G Alliance, TCDSI, Academic Network and Startup Ecosystem.

This will help more than 4 lakh students and more than 2,000 PhDs and researchers doing research in the VTU network. It will also help in commercialization of innovation. Ajay Chaudhary, chairman of the mission governing board at the National Quantum Mission, said that 600 scientists and 50 startups in the country are working in quantum technology. National Quantum Mission was launched by India in April 2023. Its objective is to develop capabilities in quantum related science and technology.
