New Delhi| YouTube announced the appointment of Gunjan Soni as Country Managing Director for India. Soni has previously worked successfully in Jalora, Star India and Myntra. After the departure of Ishaan Chatterjee last year, Soni has taken over a new role in the company.

Alphabet-owned video platform YouTube said in a statement that with over two decades of leadership experience in business, technology, marketing and e-commerce, Sony is poised to lead YouTube’s growth and innovation efforts in India.

Soni joined YouTube from Jalora. There, she worked as Group CEO for six years in Singapore. During her tenure, she will play an important role in introducing new categories and business models, enhancing users’ experience by promoting innovation.

Soni also has good experience in Indian media and marketing, having worked as EVP at Star India and CMO at Myntra. Prior to that, she was a partner in the Consumer and Marketing Practice at McKinsey. She serves on the board of CBRE Group, a Fortune 500 company.

Gautam Anand, Vice President, YouTube Asia-Pacific, said, “Youtube’s journey in India remains vibrant and dynamic”. It represents a country full of immense creative energy and potential. Gunjan’s deep understanding of the creator economy and India’s video commerce landscape, combined with her leadership, will help us accelerate creator growth, open up new opportunities, connect users, and make a meaningful contribution to India’s digital journey.

Soni said the way YouTube empowers creators and connects communities across India is “really inspiring”. “I feel thrilled to join this dynamic team and lead a platform that has long supported India’s Creator Economy”, she said.
