He said, voting is taking place today on Meerapur, Ghaziabad, Kundarki, Khair, Karhal, Sisamau, Katehari, Majhwan and Phulpur assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh. There is an appeal to all the respected voters to vote to give more momentum and strength to the uninterrupted development journey of Uttar Pradesh. Today, voting is going on for the by-elections in 15 Vidhan Sabha seats of 4 states and Nanded Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra. Uttar Pradesh is also one of these states. Where, voting is going on in Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar), Kundarki (Moradabad), Ghaziabad, Khair Safer (Aligarh), Karhal (Mainpuri), Sisamau (Kanpur Nagar), Phulpur (Prayagraj), Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar) and Majhwan (Mirzapur) seats. Special arrangements have been made keeping in mind that there should be no hindrance in the voting process. UP Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa had said that the Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for fair and peaceful elections.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, voting is taking place in the by-election at 3718 polling booths of total 1917 polling stations. There are 1237 sensitive in these polling places. The Commission has also deployed 9 general observers, 5 police observers and 9 expenditure observers to keep a close watch on voting. There are 1846846 male, 1588967 female and 161 third gender voters in these nine seats.

Ghaziabad has the highest number of 14 candidates and Khair and Sisamau assembly constituency with the lowest number of 5 candidates each. There are a total of 3435974 voters in these seats. Whereas, 90 candidates, including 11 women, are in the fray. In addition to the voter photo identity card, 12 other identity cards will be valid for voting.

In this by-election, Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting on eight seats and its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal on one seat. Whereas SP is contesting on all nine seats with the support of Congress. BSP is also contesting on all nine seats in this by-election.

Apart from SP, BJP and BSP, other political parties are also in the fray to try their luck on Karhal assembly seat. The main contest is believed to be between SP and BJP.

Talking about assembly seats, eight seats have become vacant due to sitting MLAs being elected as Lok Sabha members, while the by-election on Sisamau assembly seat of Kanpur is being held due to the punishment of SP MLA Irfan Solanki.
