New Delhi| Colorful species of mangoes are in good demand in US and European countries. Mango varieties Arunika and Ambika, released by the Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) in the last few years, are also colorful. The early release Awadh Samriddhi is also colorful. Awadh Madhurima which is in the pipeline of release is also colorful. In such a situation, the possibility of their export increases. Yogi government intends to make Uttar Pradesh number one not only in mango production but also in export.

An official said that the government will set up a radiation treatment plant near Jewar Airport to meet the export standards of US and European countries. Till now there is no such treatment plant anywhere in North India. Such treatment plants are available only in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Mango species (Alphonso, Bombay Green, Totapari, Bagnafly) from these two places also have the highest share in exports. Due to lack of treatment plant in the state, mangoes are sent from here to Mumbai or Bengaluru for treatment as per the export standards of the respective countries and after treatment they are then exported. This wastes time and resources. Besides, quality also remains in danger due to low self-line. That is why Yogi government is going to set up a radiation treatment plant near Jewar International Airport on PPP model.

In radiation treatment technology, exported fruits, vegetables and grains are subjected to radiation. Due to this, the existing germs in them die and the life of the treated product also increases. He said that once the treatment plant becomes operational, it will become easier for the common gardeners of Uttar Pradesh to access the markets of US and European countries.

Since mango is produced the most in Uttar Pradesh, the gardeners here will also get the maximum benefit from any new export opportunity. Canopy management of mangoes is required to improve the yield and quality of old orchards. Yogi government has also issued a government order to resolve the deadlock in this work. Scientists are also continuously encouraging gardeners to manage old gardens in this manner. After some time, its effect will be visible on the yield and quality of mango.

There is immense potential for export of mango. Especially in America and European countries. Recently, in the national seminar organized on mango in CISH Rahmankheda (Lucknow), Israeli scientist Yuvan Cohen had also said that India should produce mango as per the choice of the European market. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also always emphasizes on agricultural diversification from farmers and taking crops as per the market demand. However, Uttar Pradesh is at the forefront in the production of mango in India. Uttar Pradesh’s share in the total mango production of the country is more than one-third. Lecanin lags far behind in exports.
