UP: SC-ST Commission can now be nominated even after 65 years, Cabinet by-Circulation approves

Lucknow| The Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Members of the Commission for Scheduled Castes and Tribes will be able to be posted after 65 years. The proposal brought to remove the condition of maximum age limit given in the Act has been approved through Cabinet By Circulation. Now soon the state government will issue an ordinance in this regard.

A total of 13 proposals from different departments were approved on Monday through Cabinet By Circulation. Approved the proposal to amend sub-section (1) of section 5 of the Uttar Pradesh Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission Act-1995 and the Amended Act, 2007. Let us tell you that till now the maximum age limit for posting to the post of member in SC-ST Commission was 65 years. There is a provision for deployment of a maximum of 20 members in the Commission. Among these members, there is a Chairman and two Vice-Chairmen.

The state government spokesperson said that any laxity in the Act can be given only through the ordinance. After the proposal was approved through cabinet by circulation, the way has now been cleared for bringing an ordinance in this regard. It should be noted that on 23 August, a number of such members were selected in the Commission, who were over 65 years of age.
