New Delhi| Important initiatives have been taken towards manufacturing and repairing American aircraft Super Hercules in India. American company Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Ltd on Tuesday announced an agreement to expand their partnership through the C-130J Super ‘Hercules Airlifter project’.

This agreement is being seen as an important step in enhancing India’s defense and aerospace capabilities. The announcement came weeks after Defense Minister Rajnath Singh visited the US. During his visit, both sides pledged to further deepen overall defense relations. The agreement provides a framework for coordination on future opportunities, including setting up maintenance, repair and refurbishment (MRO) centers in India for the Indian Air Force’s 12 C-130J existing fleet.

Tata Advanced Systems has said that the agreement will also pave the way for expanding manufacturing of the C-130J in India for the production of aircraft for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program, which will depend on US and Indian government approval.
