Rice kheer is made on the day of Kharna during Chhath Puja, note its easy recipe
Lucknow| Rice kheer is a traditional sweet made on the day of Kharna in Chhath Puja. It is prepared from milk, rice and jaggery. This kheer is offered to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya and then taken up by the family members. The milk and jaggery present in this kheer gives energy to the body and during the fast the body also gets many essential nutrients. Let us tell you the easy recipe to make it in this article.
Chhath Puja Prasad: Ingredients for making Rice kheer
1. 1 cup rice (Basmati or other rice)
2. 3 liters of milk (full cream)
3. 200 grams of molasses
4. 5-6 cardamom (cut)
5. 10-12 Almonds (finely chopped)
6. 10-12 cashews (finely chopped)
7. 5-6 raisins
8. 1/2 teaspoon desi ghee
Method of making Rice kheer
First of all, wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for at least 30 minutes. This will cook the rice quickly.
Now add milk to a heavy bottomed vessel and boil it on medium flame.
Then when the milk starts boiling, add soaked rice to it and keep stirring continuously so that the milk does not stick down.
After this, take some water in a separate vessel and dissolve jaggery in it.
When the rice is almost half cooked, add jaggery solution to it and mix well.
Now add cardamom powder to it and reduce the flame.
Cook this kheer until the rice is completely cooked and the kheer becomes thick.
Add finely chopped almonds, cashews and raisins 5 minutes before it is fully cooked.
Then finally add desi ghee to this kheer and mix it well.
Special tips
1. Keep stirring the kheer continuously so that the milk does not curdle and the kheer does not burn.
2. You can increase or decrease the amount of jaggery as per your taste.
3. If you like kheer too thick then you can boil some more milk and add it.
4. You can garnish the kheer with almonds and cashews.
5. If you want, you can also add a little cardamom powder on top.
