New Delhi| NHAI will monitor about 100 toll plazas using GIS-based software to ensure smooth traffic flow on National Highways. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) issued an official release giving this information. These toll plazas have been selected on the basis of feedback received from congestion achieved through the 1,033 National Highway Helpline.

Live monitoring system will provide congestion alerts in real time. And will recommend lane adjustment if the queues of vehicles at the toll plaza exceed the prescribed limit. The statement also said that this monitoring service will be gradually expanded to cover more toll plazas.

This software will give detailed information including name and location of each toll plaza, live status of queue length in meters, total waiting time and vehicle speed. In addition, it will issue an alert of congestion. And will suggest changing lanes if queues exceed acceptable limits. Apart from this, the software will also give updates about the current weather conditions and local festivals. This will enable NHAI officials to take proactive measures to manage traffic and reduce congestion at toll plazas.
