Meerut accident: 10 people dead so far after three-storey house collapses, rescue operation underway

Lucknow| So far, 10 people have died due to the collapse of a three-storey building in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. An official confirmed 10 deaths Sunday. Meerut District Magistrate Deepak Meena said that the dead included a man, three women and six children. He said, “Suddenly a three-storey building collapsed in Zakir Colony, Meerut on Saturday. The bodies of 10 people have been recovered since Saturday.

He said that 15 people were present in the house at the time of the accident, out of which three people had already been evacuated safely, but 12 people were trapped under the debris. DM said that out of 12 people trapped under the debris, 10 people, including a man, have died. The bodies have been sent to the medical college for post-mortem. He said the number of cattle rescued and the death toll was not yet clear. He said that the rescue operation of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is going on, which will continue till the debris is removed.

According to the report, the incident occurred around 5:15 pm on Saturday evening, after receiving information about which a rescue operation was launched. The owner of the house has been identified as Alauddin. He ran a dairy in the building. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also taken cognizance of this accident. He has instructed the officials to reach the spot and speed up the relief work. He has also given instructions for the treatment of the injured.
