Mahakumbh 2025: Trains to run at a speed of 130 km/h on Prayagraj-Varanasi railway track
Prayagraj| Before Prayagraj Mahakumbh, Indian Railways has completed the important task of making the journey between two important centers of Sanatan culture, Prayagraj and Varanasi, faster and easier. The work of doubling the railway track between the two cities is in the final stages. The Prime Minister will launch the project during his visit following an inspection by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on 8 December.
The double engine government of the Center and the State does not want to leave any stone unturned in making Mahakumbh 2025 divine, grand, safe and accessible. Around 40 crore devotees from every corner of the country are estimated to come to Prayagraj in Mahakumbh 2025. In such a situation, preparations of Indian Railways are also going on war footing. In this direction, Railways has completed the work of Varanasi-Prayagraj railway line doubling and Ganga rail bridge.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav will inspect this project on 8 December. On 13 December, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also launch this project along with inspection and inauguration of ongoing construction works of Mahakumbh during his visit to Prayagraj. With the doubling of the rail track between Prayagraj and Varanasi, trains will now be able to run at a speed of 100 to 130 kilometers per hour on this route. A state-of-the-art train like Vande Bharat will cover the distance between Prayagraj and Varanasi in one to one and a quarter hours.
The work of doubling of Ganga Rail Bridge and Prayagraj, Varanasi railway tracks has been done by RVNL, an organization of Indian Railways. Describing about the project, RVNL GM Vinay Aggarwal said that the construction of this bridge was proposed in 2003. But due to lack of political will and problem in land acquisition, its construction work remained stalled. But due to the efforts of the double engine government, the construction work of Ganga Bridge started in 2019 and the movement of trains will start from Brij before Mahakumbh.
Ganga Rail Bridge works to connect Daraganj in Prayagraj with Jhunsi, which will replace the aging IGAT Bridge. Besides, in this sequence, the rail over bridge near CMP Degree College in Prayagraj and the track between Jhunsi to Rambagh have also been doubled and connected to this railway line. About 200 trains pass through this track every day. Through this track, now the speed of trains between Delhi-Kolkata, Prayagraj-Kolkata, Prayagraj Gorakhpur and Prayagraj-Patna will be faster.
