Lucknow tops in availing the benefits of PM Surya Ghar Yojana
Lucknow| The campaign to end the problem of electricity availability in the country forever through solar energy and to provide almost free electricity to the public is progressing at a fast pace in UP. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has set different targets for all the 75 districts of the state for installing solar rooftop panels on the roofs of houses. CM Yogi himself is monitoring this scheme. Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, which started this year, maximum number of rooftop panels have been installed in Lucknow district in just seven months. In this sequence, Varanasi, Kanpur, Agra and Kanpur city are in the top five.
Recently, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh had also reviewed the PM Surya Ghar Scheme. During the review, it was told that maximum 11,435 solar rooftop panels have been made functional in Lucknow district in the state. At the second position, 4088 solar panels have been installed so far under this scheme in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Similarly, 1909 rooftop panels have been installed in Kanpur, 1364 in Agra and 1349 in Prayagraj.
The campaign is being carried forward rapidly in other districts of the state also. The Chief Secretary has instructed the officials of the Electricity Department to speed up the work. So far, more than 17 lakh 75 thousand registrations have been done for PM Surya Ghar Yojana in Uttar Pradesh. Rooftop panels have been installed in more than 32 thousand of these homes.
Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, a subsidy of Rs 30 thousand is being given by the Central Government and Rs 15 thousand i.e. a total of Rs 45 thousand is being given by the State Government on the roof top of one kilowatt capacity. Similarly, for two kilowatts, a subsidy of Rs 60 thousand is being given by the Center and Rs 30 thousand i.e. a total of Rs 90 thousand is being given by the state government. Whereas for loads of three kilowatts and above, a subsidy of Rs 78 thousand is being given by the Center and Rs 30 thousand by the State Government i.e. a total of Rs 1 lakh 8 thousand.
On 15 February 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. The plan aims to generate and consume electricity through solar energy by 2027 by installing solar panels on the roofs of 1 crore households in the country. The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has resolved to rapidly take forward this scheme, which was started to reduce the burden of electricity bills on the public. CM Yogi Adityanath has set a target of installing solar panels on 25 lakh houses in the state. For this, a target has been set for all the seven discoms of UP and each district. CM Yogi himself is monitoring this scheme.
