‘Institutional mechanism should be created for effective administration of logistics sector’- CM Yogi

Lucknow|Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed the need to prepare a strong policy framework for the logistics sector in the state. He has said that transport infrastructure and traffic planning should be made for easy last mile delivery in the state. There should be a scheme that supports warehousing and other terminal infrastructure in the state and also creates a secure and strong logistics regulatory ecosystem. In such a situation, an integrated state logistics plan of the state should be prepared.

In an important meeting, the Chief Minister said that it is the result of continuous planned efforts that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as an achiever state today by rising above the 13th rank in the Leeds ranking of the Government of India. There is a need to promote the logistics industry by taking these efforts forward. Investment should be attracted in the logistics sector, a convenient environment should be ensured for setting up warehousing facilities in the state. There is a need to create institutional mechanisms for effective administration of this sector.

CM Yogi said that to identify economic centers and aggregation points for agricultural produce and products in the state and address related logistics related challenges, increase traffic linkages by promoting coordination of road, air, water and rail networks, storage in the state. Planned efforts are necessary to increase capacity. While preparing the State Logistics Plan, we have to take care that there is minimum loss to the goods due to theft/arson/riots etc. Ecosystem can be promoted for minimum inspection and minimum interruptions of goods movement on the road.

He stressed on adopting technology to ensure safe movement and tracking of cargo and also said that skill development/training facilities related to logistics sector should also be increased in the state. Pointing out the need to bridge the demand-supply gap of essential trained drivers, the Chief Minister also directed to customize the courses to provide industry-related skills.

Discussing the proposed State Logistics Plan, CM Yogi said that at present there is a shortage of designated parking spaces for trucks, which leads to traffic jams. Jam situations arise due to heavy traffic, encroachment and construction. At the same time, obstacles like no-entry zones and inadequate bridges at railway crossings, which affect the movement of goods. Not only this, lack of adequate facilities like rest and parking area has been experienced for drivers traveling long distances. The new plan should also ensure lasting solutions to these problems. A Logistics Division should also be formed to formalize the State Logistics Plan. This division will regularly monitor the progress of the scheme under the logistics scheme.
