Congress releases first list for Jammu and Kashmir elections

Jammu| Congress released its list of 9 candidates for the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. In this list, Congress has given tickets to three former presidents of Jammu and Kashmir, which include Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Pirzada Mohammad Saeed and Vikar Rasool Wani. Congress has fielded Ghulam Ahmed Mir from Duru assembly seat in Anantnag district. Apart from this, ticket has been given to Mohammad Saeed from Anantnag assembly seat and Vikar Rasool Wani from Banihal assembly seat of Ramban district. Other candidates announced by Congress. These include Surinder Singh Channi from Tral seat of Pulwama district, Amanullah Mantu from Devsar seat of Kulgam district, Sheikh Zafarullah from Inderwal seat of Kishtwar district, Nadeem Sharif from Bhaderwah seat of Doda district, Sheikh Riaz from Doda seat and Dr. from Doda West seat. Ticket has been given to Pradeep Kumar Bhagat.
Let us tell you that Congress released the list of candidates on Monday night. A few hours before this, there was a discussion between senior leaders of Congress and National Conference regarding seat sharing in the assembly elections, after which both the parties agreed on seat sharing. National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, senior Congress leader K.C. Venugopal, Salman Khurshid and Jammu and Kashmir unit president Tariq Hameed Karra held a press conference in Srinagar. He said the two parties had agreed to seat sharing on 85 of the total 90 seats and a ‘friendly contest’ on the remaining five seats. Out of 85 seats, National Conference will contest 51 seats, while Congress will contest 32 seats and CPI-M and Panthers Party will contest one seat each out of the remaining two. The five seats on which candidates of National Conference and Congress will face each other. They include Banihal, Doda, Nagrota and Bhaderwah of Jammu region and Sopore of Valley region. Karra said that both the parties will field candidates against each other on these five seats, but the contest will be completely friendly.
Assembly elections are to be held in Jammu and Kashmir in three phases. Voting will take place on 24 seats in the first phase, 26 seats in the second phase and 40 seats in the third phase. While the results will be announced on 4 October. Assembly elections are going to be held for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir after Section 370 was abolished in August 2019.
