New Delhi| Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi will be sworn in as the second woman Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday after AAP and Congress’s Sheila Dikshit and BJP’s Sushma Swaraj. Lt. Governor V.K. Saxena has proposed the date of 21 September for the post of CM-of Delhi. AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal officially resigned from his chief ministership on 17 September (Tuesday). After this, the party proposed Atishi’s name for the post of Chief Minister and he staked claim to form the government before the LG. Atishi will lead the government for the remaining term of the party.

According to a source the resignation letter of outgoing CM Kejriwal has also been sent to President Murmu. This latest development comes just a day after Atishi staked claim to form the new government during a meeting with LG Saxena. According to reports, Atishi, AAP MLA from Kalkaji constituency, will prove her government’s majority in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, after taking over as CM.

The AAP government has called a session of the Assembly on 26-27 September. The term of the Assembly will end on 23 February next year. Elections are also likely to be held in early February. Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in the Delhi Excise Policy case, was granted bail by the Supreme Court on 13 September.
