Lucknow| On the occasion of Navratri, auto rickshaw drivers are being deployed as Shakti Sarathi for the safety of women. They are being trained to ensure safe movement of women as well as safety, respect and empowerment. This unique initiative is being taken by the Gonda district administration under the guidance of CM Yogi Adityanath. The theme ‘Shakti Sarathi’ has been set under the program ‘Shakti Vandan 2.0’ on the occasion of Durga Mahashtami. Its objective is to ensure safe transportation for women and empower them. Let us tell you that Gonda district administration had started the Shakti Vandan program last year. Then a record was set by worshiping about 12 thousand girls.
This unique initiative is being taken under the leadership of District Magistrate Neha Sharma, in which auto rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers are being trained for safe movement of women. Training of auto drivers under ‘Shakti Sarathi’ initiative will strengthen women safety and send a new message to the society. The event will be organized on 11 October 2024. The initiative is based on the fact that more than 90 per cent of women use autos or e-rickshaws for travel. Initially more than 1000 auto and e-rickshaw drivers have been included under this initiative, who have been trained in protecting women and providing assistance in emergency situations. This programme will be expanded further in the future.
District Magistrate Neha Sharma said that through Shakti Vandan 2.0, they are trying to make the society aware about the empowerment of women and their safety. Auto drivers have been trained under the ‘Shakti Sarathi’ initiative, so that women can travel without any fear. This program is an important step to bring positive change towards women in the society. This program is being organized as a zero waste event, in which proper disposal of the waste generated at the venue will be ensured.
Exhibitions of various development works will also be organized during the program. It will showcase the improvements in education, health, sanitation and infrastructure. A painting competition is also being organized on the theme ‘Shakti Sarathi’, which will feature an exhibition of the 50 best paintings made by children.
