New Delhi|The price of home-cooked vegetarian thali rose 11 percent year-on-year in September, while non-vegetarian thali has become cheaper by 2 percent. This information was given in a report.

The reason for the increased cost of vegetarian thali is the increase in vegetable prices, which collectively account for 37 percent of the total price of thali. The price of onions has increased by 53 per cent on an annual basis, the price of potatoes by 50 per cent and the price of tomatoes by 18 per cent.

Onion, potato and tomato prices have risen 53 percent, 50 percent and 18 percent, respectively, Crisil Market Intelligence and Analytics reported. The increase in prices of onion and potato has been due to low arrivals, while the production of tomato has been affected by heavy rains, due to which a rise in prices has been recorded.

“Due to the decline in the price of broilers, the cost of non-veg thali has declined compared to last year”, said Pushan Sharma, Director-Research, CRISIL Market Intelligence and Analytics. We expect a slight improvement in onion prices after the arrival of Kharif supplies in the market. Potato prices are also expected to fall, although tomato prices may remain high due to low supply

The price of pulses, which account for 9 per cent of the cost of vegetarian thali, rose 14 per cent last year due to a decrease in production. The initial stock declined this year as the price of pulses increased. Prices rose further due to reduction in stocks.

According to the report, an 11 per cent drop in fuel costs has been recorded. The price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi fell from Rs 903 in September last year to Rs 803 in March this year. Due to this decline in fuel costs, the further increase in plate costs stopped.

According to the report, the price of broilers on non-veg plates has fallen by an estimated 13 per cent on an annual basis. This accounts for 50 per cent of the price of non-veg thali.

The average cost of thali is calculated based on the input prices prevailing in North, South, East and West India.
