New Delhi| The Supreme Court has banned bulldozer action across the country. The Court has directed the States not to demolish property anywhere in India without the permission of the Court by 1 October, the next hearing date. However, the court has made it clear that this order will not apply to any unauthorized construction on public roads, footpaths etc. The Supreme Court said that if there is even a single case of illegal vandalism, it is against the basic spirit of our Constitution.

Along with this, the Supreme Court directed that officials across the country will not demolish the property of those accused of crimes without permission.

In the case, a bench of Justices BR Gavai and KV Vishwanathan clarified that this order will not apply to encroached constructions on public roads, footpaths and others. The apex court was hearing petitions alleging demolition of properties of crime accused in many states.

During this hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that a story is being fabricated regarding the demolition of properties. On this the bench told the senior law officer, rest assured that external noise is not affecting us. With this, the bench fixed the next hearing of the case for October 1.
