Sitharaman to present a paperless budget this time too; All eyes on the budget speech
New Delhi| Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will once again present her eighth consecutive budget through a digital tablet wrapped in a traditional ‘ledger-accounting style bag. Sitharaman, India’s first full-time woman finance minister, broke the colonial tradition of carrying budget briefcases in July, 2019. Instead he had opted for the traditional ‘ledger’ to carry Union budget papers.
He continued this tradition the next year also. He used digital tablets to replace traditional papers to carry his speech and other budget documents in 2021, affected by the global pandemic. She was seen continuing this tradition on Saturday also.
Before going to meet President Draupadi Murmu, Sitharaman was seen with her officials outside the North Block office. On this occasion she was wearing ‘cream’ colored saree. To present the budget in digital format, he had a tablet in his hand instead of a briefcase. The tablet was placed inside a red cover with the national emblem in gold instead of a briefcase.
