Varanasi| Varanasi Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-BHU) celebrated ’Research and Innovation Day ’ on the occasion of Teacher’s Day on Thursday. On this special occasion, seven outstanding teachers of the institute were awarded the “Best Teachers Award” in four different categories, which were for 2023 and 2024.
In the categories of Best Teachers Award for 2024 UG first year category Dr. A. S. Dhoble (School of Biochemical Engineering), Prof. in PG category. Arnab Sarkar (Mechanical Engineering), and Prof. in UG Engineering category. R.K. Singh (Electrical Engineering) was awarded. At the same time, for 2023 in the UG first year category Dr. Rakesh Kumar Singh (Physics), Prof. in PG category. Dr. Arnab Sarkar (Mechanical Engineering), UG Science and Humanities category. Avnish Singh Parmar (Physics), and Dr. in UG Engineering category. Sanjeev Kumar Mahato (School of Biomedical Engineering) was awarded the award. Director Prof. Amit Patra, chief guest Prof. Rajeev Sangal, and special guest Prof. Vidyasagar M. Presented awards.
Inaugurating the Research and Innovation Day, Chief Guest Prof. Rajeev Sangal said that research is an exciting process, while teaching is satisfactory. Furthermore, teachers have a major responsibility to guide students. When a strong relationship is formed between a teacher and a student, then excellence is achieved in research. Special guest Prof. Vidyasagar M. (Professor of IIT Hyderabad) criticized the system based on ranking, saying that every educational institution is important because of its uniqueness. Instead of attracting foreign students, we should encourage our talented students to pursue education in the country itself.
Institute Director Prof. Amit Patra said in his presidential speech that our institute will have to increase its research output. Instead of running after rankings, we should focus on excellence, which will automatically improve the rankings. He stressed that we have to be ambitious and work together with other institutions to solve problems at the country and global level.
Dean Prof. While giving the welcome address, Vikas Kumar Dubey highlighted the achievements of the institute. He informed that research work is currently going on in the institute on 475 projects, with a total estimated cost of Rs 230 crore. 100 new projects have been added this year. The number of patents has also increased significantly; in 2021 there were only 2 patents, increasing to 44 in 2023 and 66 patents have been obtained this year. The program concluded with the inauguration of the exhibition ‘Poster Pavilion’ of research work by the chief guests at Swatantrata Bhawan. Senior professors, officers and a large number of students of the institute were present in the program.
