Republican MP demanded to keep all records of Adani case safe, this comment was made on India

New Delhi| Reap Lance Gooden, a member of the Judicial Committee of the Parliament in America, has made a big demand on the prosecution related to Adani Group. He has requested the US Justice Ministry to preserve all records related to the selective prosecution conducted in the Biden administration against industrialist Gautam Adani and his group companies.
This demand has been made a few days before the government of outgoing US President Joe Biden leaves power and Donald Trump takes charge of the presidency. On Tuesday, Gooden, in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, demanded that the ministry preserve all records and documents related to its decision to take action against the Adani Group.
In another letter to Garland on January 7, Gooden expressed serious concern over the recent indictment of the group by the ministry. He said the indictment alleges that these acts were committed entirely inside India, involving Indian citizens and officials. This did not harm American interests.
Gooden said, even if the allegations in the Adani case are proved true, we will not be able to become the proper and final arbiter on this issue. These ‘‘bribery’’ were allegedly given in India, to the authorities there, by Indian officials of an Indian company, with no substantive involvement of any American side or any harm to anyone.’’
He said, ‘‘ on the contrary, according to the indictment of the Ministry of Justice officials of the American company Smartmatic responsible for the conduct of our elections allegedly laundered money and bribed foreign governments. However, we never received any information from your ministry despite my and my colleagues asking several times to address these concerns before the election.’’
Accusing the ministry of adopting a highly selective approach against Adani and his companies, the Republican lawmaker raised several questions with Garland. He said India is one of America’s few reliable partners in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as one of the fastest growing and largest economies.
Gooden said, ‘‘Such negligent action against its top industrialists is detrimental to India’s growth, Not respecting India’s authority in this matter can strain and even permanently damage our international relations with a strategically important and key economic and political ally.’’ The Republican lawmaker stressed that targeting organizations that invested billions of dollars and created thousands of jobs for Americans would only harm the United States in the long run.
It is noteworthy that in November last year, the US Justice Ministry and the US Securities and Exchange Commission had made allegations of bribery and conspiracy against Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Cyril Cabanes, an executive of Azure Power Global Limited. Adani Group, however, has rejected all these allegations.
