PM Modi held bilateral talks with Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu

New Delhi|Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maldives President Mohammed Muizzu held bilateral talks focused on relations between the two countries at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Monday. Muijju reached New Delhi on Sunday for a five-day visit to India.

Giving information about the meeting in a post on X, the Ministry of External Affairs wrote, “Pursuing India-Maldives special relations! Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed Maldives President Muizzu on his arrival at Hyderabad House. There will be extensive discussions on India-Maldives bilateral relations.”

Earlier in the day, Mohammad Muizzu was formally welcomed by President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi in the courtyard of Rashtrapati Bhavan. After this, the President of Maldives went to Rajghat and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

Muizzu has come to India on the invitation of President Murmu. This is his first official visit to India after assuming office.Earlier on Sunday, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh along with a high-level delegation welcomed Muizzu at Delhi Airport.

Foreign Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar met Mohammed Muizzu soon after the Maldives President reached the national capital on Sunday.

“Pleased to meet President Mohammed Muizzu today”, the External Affairs Minister wrote on X after his meeting with the President of Maldives. Appreciate their commitment to enhancing India-Maldives relations. I am confident that his talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow will provide new impetus to our friendly relations.

The President of Maldives will visit Agra on Tuesday along with First Lady Sajida Mohammed and a high-level delegation.A ccording to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the President of Maldives will also visit Mumbai and Bengaluru with a high-level delegation from his country, where he will attend business events.

This visit of Muizzu holds great importance because India-Maldives relations have been full of ups and downs in recent times. However, for some time now the President of Maldives has been continuously making such statements which show that he wants to maintain strong relations with India.

“President Dr. Muizzu is committed to enhancing bilateral relations with the countries playing an important role in the development and growth of Maldives, so as to ensure a dynamic and proactive foreign policy for the country. Discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and further enhancing long-term relations between the two countries.”
