Pahalgam Attack: India took five major decisions, visas of Pakistani citizens cancelled; Wagah-Attari border also closed

New Delhi| After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, many major decisions have been taken in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri gave this information while addressing a press conference. Misri said, a CCS meeting was held this evening under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister. The CCS was briefed in detail on Tuesday’s terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which killed 25 Indians and one Nepalese citizen. Many other people were injured. The CCS condemned the attack in the strongest terms and expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished the speedy recovery of the injured.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, understanding the seriousness of this terrorist attack, CCS decided on the following measures –

1. The Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 will be held in abeyance with immediate effect, unless Pakistan reliably and irreversibly renounces its support for cross-border terrorism.

2. The integrated check post attic will be closed with immediate effect. Those who have crossed the border in a lawful manner may return by that route before 1 May 2025.

3. Pakistani citizens will not be allowed to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Waiver Scheme. Any SPES visas issued in the past to Pakistani nationals will be considered cancelled. Any Pakistani citizen currently in India under SPES visa has 48 hours to leave India.

4. Defense, military, naval and air advisors at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi are declared persona non grata. He has a week to leave India.

5. India will recall its defense, naval and air advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. These posts in the concerned High Commissions will be considered cancelled.

“The CCS reviewed the overall security situation and directed all forces to maintain high vigilance. Resolved that the perpetrators of this attack be brought to justice and that their sponsors be held accountable. Like the recent extradition of Tahawwur Rana, India will make continuous efforts to search for those who have committed or conspired to make terrorist acts possible.”, Misri said.

The CCS meeting lasted for two and a half hours
After the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) was held at the Prime Minister’s residence this evening. Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over this meeting. Many top officials including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also attended the meeting. This meeting lasted for two and a half hours.

26 tourists were killed while 17 tourists were injured in a terror attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley on Tuesday. Terrorists opened fire targeting tourists. After the terrorist attack, everyone from Army to NIA, police and other agencies are in alert mode since Wednesday morning. Every nook and corner is being monitored through drones and helicopters. Also the terrorists are being searched. Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi is on high alert.

Two local terrorists involved in the attack in Baisaran Valley have been identified. Two Pakistani terrorists have also been identified. The names of local terrorists are said to be Adil Ahmed Thakur and Asif Shaikh.

Earlier, the bodies of those killed in Tuesday’s terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam were brought to Srinagar on Wednesday, where floral tributes were paid at the officer police control room. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who reached Srinagar on Wednesday night, paid floral tributes on the coffins of the deceased at a function at PCR on Wednesday.
