Onion prices skyrocketing in Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow

New Delhi| Due to the rise in onion prices, people’s eyes have started becoming moist in many cities of the country including Delhi, Mumbai and Lucknow. This is troubling both customers and sellers. Onion price has increased from Rs 40-60 per kg to Rs 70-80 per kg in wholesale markets.

Speaking to ANI, a seller in a Delhi market said, “The price of onion has increased from Rs 60 to Rs 70 per kg”. We buy it from the market, so the prices we get from there affect the price at which we sell it. Sales have decreased because of price increases, but people are still buying it because it’s an important part of the eating habits here”

On the increase in onion prices, Faiza, a buyer, shared her problem and said, “The price of onion has increased, whereas it should have decreased according to the season”. I bought 70 bucks a kilo of onions. This has affected the eating habits at home. I appeal to the government to at least reduce the prices of vegetables eaten every day As of 8 November 2024, the price of onion in Delhi remained around Rs 80 per kg.

There has been a rise in the price of onion in many states of the country including Mumbai markets. A Mumbai buyer Dr. Khan spoke to ANI about the rise in prices and said, “The prices of onion and garlic have increased manifold”. It has doubled. The household budget has also been affected by this. I bought 5 kg onions for 360 bucks.”

Kishore, a seller in the market, said, “The price of onion has increased due to inflation”. The price has gone up from 60 to 70-75 bucks, but it’s a staple vegetable, so consumers are buying it” The price of onion has jumped across the country and this vegetable is being sold in the range of Rs 80 per kg. Onion prices are also being sold at Rs 90 per kg in Lucknow.
