NSE: In 2024 companies raised ₹1.67 lakh crore through IPO, market cap of NSE became ₹438.9 lakh crore

New Delhi| The Indian stock market saw substantial growth in 2024. The National Stock Exchange’s growth in listing, market capitalization, investor participation and fund raising is better than last year. Data from the NSE annual report shows that as of December 31, 2024, a total of 2,671 companies were listed on the stock exchange, with a figure of 2,527 in 2023. The market capitalization of these listed companies was Rs 361.05 lakh crore ($4.34 trillion) at the end of 2023 which increased by 21.5 per cent to Rs 438.9 lakh crore ($5.13 trillion) in 2024.

In 2024, Rs 1.67 lakh crore was raised through an initial public offering (IPO). During this time 90 companies were listed in the main section. The largest IPO was that of Hyundai Motor India Limited, which raised a record Rs 27,859 crore. Notable activity was also seen in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) segment. In which 178 companies raised Rs 7,348 crore through IPO. The total amount raised through primary equity markets in 2024, which includes IPOs, FPOs and rights issues, reached approximately Rs 3.98 lakh crore.

NSE Nifty50 achieved 8.8 percent growth in 2024 and reached 23,645 levels by December 31, 2024. At the end of 2023, it was at the level of 21,731. Interestingly, the Nifty Next50 showed the highest growth at 27.4 percent and closed at 67,988 on the last day of the year. Other indices like Nifty Midcap50 and Nifty Smallcap50 also saw growth of 21.5 per cent and 25.3 per cent respectively.

NSE annual data shows that the market capitalization of companies increased to 145 percent compared to the GDP ratio in 2024. In 2023 it was 117%. This figure is evidence of the strong performance of domestic equity markets. The number of investors showed an increase of 27.2% over the previous year. By December 26, 2024, the number of investors reached 10.9 crore. Assets under management (AUM) of funds dependent on Nifty indices also witnessed significant growth. From Rs 5.9 lakh crore in December 2023, this figure reached Rs 7.6 lakh crore by November 2024.

NSE has also kept its position strong at the global level. NSE ranked fourth globally in terms of market capitalization and first in equity derivatives. The exchange also increased its global stake in equity derivative contracts to 82 percent in 2024, it was 74 percent in 2023. 2024 on the NSE also saw progress in the municipal bond and social impact areas. The Municipal Bond Market raised Rs 1,058.9 crore from six issues, including notable bonds of Rajkot Municipal Corporation and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
