Mission Shakti: Yogi government to make 1.25 lakh council girls financially literate
Lucknow| The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has pledged to empower 1.25 lakh girl students of council schools with financial literacy, with a target of completion by December 31. The objective of this initiative is to empower the girl child with financial knowledge and management skills so that they can become self-reliant and economically aware. Under Mission Shakti, the Yogi government aims to provide financial education to the girls of 80 thousand Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), 35 thousand PM Shri Yojana schools and 10 thousand other upper primary schools. In this campaign run with the technical support of UNICEF, efforts will be made to make girls financially capable by giving them information about savings, banking, digital payments, insurance and other financial subjects.
The orientation of 2,200 teachers has been completed with UNICEF support on 28 October to enhance the effectiveness of the campaign. It is also planned to complete the training of 3,000 nodal teachers by 30 November, who will then train the girl child in financial literacy.
In this training program, girls will be given information about various financial concepts, money management, digital payments, insurance and risk management, currency identification and measures to prevent financial fraud. Besides, future employment opportunities will also be introduced under career awareness.
– Ways to moderate future needs will be taught through expenditure management according to the total income of the family. They will be given real life tasks through practical activities.
– Ways to cut unnecessary expenses and increase savings will be taught.
– Income-to-savings planning skills will be taught so that adequate funds can be raised for large expenses.
– Opening a bank account, information on banking services, and the importance of savings for emergencies will be explained. Information regarding check book, ATM card, interest, fixed and recurring deposits will be given.
– Practical experience will be provided to the girl child through stories, activities and bank visits.
Minister of State for Basic Education Sandeep Singh said that this campaign is an important step towards economically empowering girls. Efforts to complete training by 31 December are continuing apace. This initiative of Yogi government is a big step towards the economic independence of girls by making them proficient in financial literacy.
