‘Meta’ ready for agreement with Trump? Will pay $25 million to settle the lawsuit

New Delhi| As soon as Donald Trump becomes the President of America, he is taking big decisions one after the other. With this, their own problems are also ending one by one. In the new case, it is being claimed that social media giant Meta has finalized an agreement with Trump.
News agency PTI quoted a media report as saying that a mutual agreement has been reached to settle the case filed by Trump against the company. Meta, a company owned by Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, has agreed to pay US$25 million to settle a lawsuit filed against the company on behalf of President Donald Trump, three people involved in the case reported. The lawsuit ties to his being banned from social media platforms following the Capitol Hill riot on January 6, 2021.

What is special in the agreement?
People discussed the agreement on the condition of anonymity due to the matter. He explained that the terms of the agreement included US$22 million going to the nonprofit. The remaining amount will be paid to legal fees and other litigants. However, in the agreement, Meta will not falsely accept the suspension of Trump’s accounts from social media platforms. This is being seen as a victory for Trump against Meta and Mark Zuckerberg. The agreement was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Led tech giants including Zuckerberg and Musk to his side
Earlier, Trump had widely criticized the social media platform over its suspension after the Jan. 6 incident. However, during the presidential election campaign, Trump sided with tech giants including Zuckerberg and X owner Elon Musk. Both of them attended Trump’s presidential swearing-in ceremony in Washington last week.
The rules banning hate speeches were relaxed
Earlier, social media giant Meta (formerly Facebook) had decided to relax the rules banning hate speech. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg cited the recent US election, in which Trump won, as the reason for relaxing the rules. This step of Meta is being considered to follow the footsteps of Elon Musk’s social media platform X. After the relaxation of rules, now meta users will also be able to comment openly on issues like gender identity, sexual orientation and immigration. However, human rights groups have expressed concern over Meta’s move and said that this move will lead to a flood of hate speeches on social media and will have a direct impact on society.
