Mark Zuckerberg becomes the second richest person in the world
New Delhi| Mark Zuckerberg became the second richest person in the world for the first time. In terms of assets, he left Amazon founder Jeff Bezos behind. This happened due to continuous increase in shares of Meta Platforms. Zuckerberg’s bet on the metaverse and AI, which was initially seen as a huge failure, has proven successful in recent months.
Zuckerberg’s net worth hit a high of $206.2 billion on Thursday, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. With this increase they surpassed Amazon’s Bezos by $1.1 billion in terms of assets. Now only Tesla’s Elon Musk is ahead of him in this matter. Whose wealth is about $50 billion more than Zuckerberg’s.
Meta shares rose 23% in the second quarter after better-than-expected sales figures and a move toward a larger language model that powers AI chatbots. The company’s shares closed Thursday at an all-time high of $582.77. Meta has spent heavily on data centers and computing power. Zuckerberg is working towards securing a leading position in the AI race. The company has also started working on other long-term projects. These include Orion Augmented Reality Glass, which the company announced last month. Zuckerberg, who owns a 13% stake in the Menlo Park-based company in California, has seen his wealth grow by $78 billion so far this year. The increase is the highest among the world’s 500 richest people tracked by the Bloomberg Index. Zuckerberg, 40, has moved up four places on the wealth index this year.
