Infosys Layoffs: News of layoffs at Infosys, criticism coming from evacuating 700 people from Mysuru campus

New Delhi| There is news of layoffs in IT sector giant Infosys. According to reports, Infosys has terminated the service of around 300 personnel who were reinstated through campus recruitment in October 2024. The company is facing criticism for taking such a step. The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), a labor rights group, condemned the company’s move, calling it “shocking and unethical”, according to a report in The Economic Times. Nascent has also announced plans to file a formal complaint with the Ministry of Labor and Employment.
What causes layoffs in Infosys?
According to the report, Infosys said the layoffs were made after internal qualifying examinations. It is mandatory for freshers to pass these examinations conducted at the Mysuru campus of the company after basic training. According to reports, freshers who failed to meet the minimum requirements in their three attempts were handed ultimatum letters and asked to quit. However, the employees allege that the syllabus and criteria of the examination were changed, making it difficult for them to pass. This has been said in the ET report.
Mass layoffs done after a long wait
Most of the affected employees belong to the 2022 engineering batch. He had waited more than 2.5 years for his onboarding. Last year, more than 1,000 engineering graduates were finally inducted as Systems Engineers (SEs) and Digital SEs, with annual salaries ranging between Rs 3.2 lakh and Rs 3.7 lakh.

“Our hiring process at Infosys is quite rigorous, where all new employees are expected to succeed in internal assessment after receiving extensive baseline training at our Mysuru campus”, the Bengaluru-headquartered IT services company said in an email response The company said that all new employees get three opportunities to pass the evaluation test, failing which they will not be able to continue working in the organization.
