Indian Railways approves new daily express Between Mumbai CSMT and Sawantwadi Road

Indian Railways has approved the introduction of a new daily Express train service between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai, and Sawantwadi Road, providing a major boost to rail connectivity across Maharashtra and the Konkan region.

The new service will operate over a 510-km route, offering direct and reliable rail connectivity for passengers travelling for tourism, education, employment, business and other social purposes.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the service will run daily as Train No. 15087 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Sawantwadi Road Express and Train No. 15088 Sawantwadi Road-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Express.

The train will have commercial stoppages at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Valivade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Sawantwadi Road.

The ministry said the new service will strengthen connectivity between the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and key towns and districts along the Konkan coast, improving accessibility for thousands of passengers.

The daily Express is also expected to provide a boost to tourism by making travel more convenient for visitors heading to the Konkan region’s beaches, forts, temples and eco-tourism destinations.

In addition, the service is expected to benefit daily commuters, students, traders, small businesses and local residents by offering an additional direct rail link between Mumbai and southern Konkan.

The Ministry said the new train is expected to support regional economic development, facilitate smoother passenger movement and improve travel convenience while meeting the growing demand for rail transport along the Konkan route.

The Ministry said the introduction of the service reflects Indian Railways’ continued commitment to expanding passenger connectivity, enhancing travel convenience and promoting balanced regional development through a stronger and more accessible railway network.
