India partners with Brazil and Bhutan to enhance food security

New Delhi| The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has partnered with Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) to improve food security through joint projects and technical cooperation, the government informed on Sunday. MoUs were signed between the two countries in the sideline of the ‘Global Food Regulators Summit 2024’ held in the national capital.

FSSAI CEO G Kamla Vardhan Rao said, “This decision shows our commitment towards food security”. It marks our progress in ongoing efforts to enhance international cooperation in food security”. Rao further said that we look forward to working with MAPA to achieve our common goals and enhance food security in both the countries.

On behalf of the representatives of MAPA from Brazil, it was said that this agreement signed between the two countries for food security is a milestone in bilateral relations. It allows technical corporations and sharing of experiences with the aim of strengthening institutional partnerships. Bilateral talks were also held with Bhutan Food and Drug Authority (BFDA) in the summit on behalf of FSSAI under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

In this meeting, talks were held to implement the agreements between India and BFDA during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bhutan in March. Rao said that we are working closely with BFDA. We are creating a strong and effective framework of food security, which is in the interests of both the countries.
