Lucknow| India won the iconic T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final of T20 World Cup-2024 played at Kensington Oval on Saturday. In the final match, India batted first and scored 176 runs losing seven wickets. The South African team, playing its first final match, fought vigorously but could only score 169 runs in 20 overs.

India did not allow the South African team, which came to chase the target of 177 runs, to make a good start. Jasprit Bumrah bowled Reeza Hendricks on the third ball of the second over. In the third over, Arshdeep got South African captain Aiden Markram caught by Rishabh Pant। He was out after scoring four runs. Meanwhile Quinton de Kock had established his foothold on the wicket. Tristan Stubbs supported him. Stubbs, however, lost the wicket due to his own mistake. He wanted to hit Akshar Patel outside the off stump but missed and was bowled. Stubbs scored 31.

India has become the third team to win the T20 title for the second time. India ended the ICC Trophy drought dating back to the year 2013 and the T20 World Cup drought which lasted for 17 years.
