The Department of Telecommunications has issued a new rule for issuing SIM cards to telecom operators. In view of fraud related to SIM card, the government keeps changing the rules related to SIM card from time to time. Recently, the government had issued a new rule regarding purchasing SIM cards in bulk. This rule can prove helpful in preventing online fraud. Come, let’s know about this new rule related to SIM card.

DoT i.e. Department of Telecommunications has issued new instructions to private companies to purchase SIM cards in bulk. Now any private company can buy only a maximum of 100 SIM cards at a time. If, the company needs more than 100 SIM cards, the company’s MD must request for it. Also, e-verification will have to be done. This means that if the company needs 1000 SIM cards, then e-verification will have to be done 10 times. SIM card will be issued only after the verification process is completed.

Actually, the government is strict in view of the increasing cases of fraud related to SIM cards. Due to this rule made regarding issuance of SIM cards, along with stopping online fraud, the increasing number of SIM cards can also be curbed. Only 100 SIM cards will now be issued at a time to issue corporate connections to private companies.

What was the rule earlier
There was no limit on issuing SIM cards to private companies to get corporate connections. Private companies could buy unlimited SIM cards from service providers at one go. Now if a corporate SIM is issued to an employee, the employee will have to get the SIM card e-verified himself. After this KYC details have to be completed. The SIM card will be activated only after it is updated. This is not done before. Earlier corporate SIM was easily issued.
