New Delhi| According to National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) data, investment by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) in the Indian stock market reached a record high this week. During this period, a total net investment of Rs 23,659.55 crore was made.

The highest investment of Rs 15,181 crore was made by FPIs in Indian equities on Monday, according to the data. This strong investment then continued throughout the week. Net investment reached Rs 8,537 crore on Friday, surpassing the total weekly net investment mark of Rs 23,000 crore. This firm trend in FPI investment led to its total inflows reaching Rs 57,359 crore in September. This is the highest investment by FPIs in Indian equities so far this year.

According to VK Vijayakumar, chief investment strategist at Geojit Financial Services, “So far in September FIIs invested Rs 57359 crore, with Rs 46480 crore invested through exchanges alone”. Total investments from FIIs have been invested in 2024 so far, amounting to Rs.100245 crore. This has led to a stability of the rupee this year.”

After the US Fed reduced interest rates, liquidity inflows into Indian markets have increased. Continuous investment by foreign investors shows that confidence in India’s stock markets is increasing globally. Investors around the world want to take advantage of strong economic growth and favorable market conditions.

The data also showed that investment by domestic investors also remained strong this week. Domestic institutional investors injected Rs 15,961.71 crore into Indian stocks, which also helped indices hit new highs this week.

This record-breaking investment is expected to give further momentum to Indian equities, which may lead to sustained market growth in the coming months. Earlier in August, net foreign investment in the Indian equity market had declined to Rs 7,322 crore, the lowest monthly investment in the last three months.

The decline is particularly steep compared to July, when foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) invested Rs 32,359 crore, according to National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) data. According to NSDL data, foreign investors remained largely net sellers in the Indian equity market throughout August.
