EY India Row: Left and Congress attack Finance Minister in Kerala, said- ‘Apologize for insensitive statement’

New Delhi| A day earlier, at an event organized in Chennai, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, citing the death of a female employee at EY India, had said that families should teach children to deal with pressure through divine powers. Whatever you study and whatever work you do, you must have the inner strength to handle that pressure and this can only be achieved through divinity. Believe in God, we need God’s grace. Learn good discipline. Your self-power will increase only through this.

On this comment of the Union Finance Minister, the Congress Party in Kerala and the ruling party CPI(M) have hit back and targeted Nirmala Sitharaman. In this matter, Kerala State Tourism and PWD Minister PA Mohammad Riyas said that Nirmala Sitharaman has become the patron of corporates exploiting IT employees. He said that mental stress and related deaths are increasing due to corporate exploitation in the IT sector of the country. Riyas said, he should withdraw his statement and apologize.

Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the greed of the corporate world took the life of Anna Sebastian. Describing Nirmala Sitharaman’s statement as extremely condemnable, he said, instead of criticizing the environment in which Anna worked or the management, the Finance Minister chose to insult her parents. The senior Congress leader wondered why there is a government and law if praying to God is the solution to every problem.

Anna Sebastian Perayil, who passed the Chartered Accountant’s ordeal in 2023 and worked for four months in the Ernst & Young, Pune office, died in July. According to a letter written by his mother to the chairman of EY India, his daughter was given a huge workload as a new employee, which affected her physically, emotionally and mentally.
