Domestic stock market rises for the second consecutive day; Sensex jumped, Nifty also jumped

New Delhi| The domestic stock market witnessed a rise on the second day of the week also. Recovering from last week’s huge fall, the market opened on the green mark for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. Sensex rose 192.03 points to 78,732.20 in early trade, while Nifty rose 44.65 points to 23,798.10.

Domestic stock markets started trading on Tuesday on a positive note, but soon started fluctuating amid continued withdrawal of foreign capital and mixed trend from Asian markets. BSE Sensex climbed 192.03 points to 78,732.20 points in early trade. NSE Nifty stood at 23,798.10 points, up 44.65 points. However, they soon lost the initial lead and started trading with ups and downs. Sensex fell by 27.66 points at 78,538.95, while Nifty was trading up by seven points at 23,760.45.

Shares of Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors, Infosys, Nestle and HCL Tech were among the gainers among the 30 Sensex listed companies. Shares of Zomato, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank and Adani Ports were in loss. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were selling on Monday and sold shares worth a net Rs 168.71 crore, according to stock market data.

The rupee fell five paise to its new all-time low of 85.16 per dollar in early trade on Tuesday amid a strong US currency stance and sustained outflows of foreign capital. The rupee opened at 85.10 per dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market and subsequently reached its new all-time low of 85.16 per dollar, representing a five penny fall from the previous closing price. The rupee had closed at 85.11 against the US dollar on Monday.

Earlier yesterday, the decline that had been going on in the local stock market for the last five trading sessions had come to an end on Monday. BSE Sensex climbed nearly 500 points. Stock buying at lower levels and a rise in global markets supported the market. Apart from this, strong buying in shares of big companies like ITC, HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries also supported the market.

BSE Sensex, based on thirty shares, closed at 78,540.17 points, up 498.58 points, or 0.64 per cent. At one point during trading, it had climbed to 876.53 points. The National Stock Exchange’s index Nifty also closed at 23,753.45 points with a gain of 165.95 points, or 0.70 percent. BSE Sensex had lost 1,176.46 points on Friday, while NSE Nifty had fallen by 364.20 points.
