Domestic stock market opened on green mark; Sensex jumped 425 points, Nifty crossed 23800
New Delhi| The domestic stock market also opened on the green mark on Thursday. BSE Sensex opened with a strong rise, while NSE Nifty also saw a rise. Sensex jumped 425.5 points to 78,898.37 in early trade, while Nifty rose 123.85 points to 23,851.50. Also the rupee fell by nine paise in early trade to reach its all-time low of 85.24 against the US dollar.

Shares of State Bank of India, Maruti, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and Power Grid were the biggest gainers among the 30 Sensex listed companies. Shares of Asian Paints, Tech Mahindra, Nestle and Tata Consultancy Services were in loss. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were selling on Tuesday and sold shares worth a net Rs 2,454.21 crore, according to stock market data.
The rupee fell 10 paise in early trade on Thursday to a new all-time low of 85.25 against the US dollar. The rupee opened at 85.23 per dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market and reached an all-time low of 85.25 against the dollar in early trade, representing a fall of 10 paise against the previous closing price. The rupee had closed at 85.15 against the US dollar on Tuesday. The foreign exchange markets were closed on Wednesday on the occasion of Christmas.
According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) bulletin released on Tuesday, the Indian economy is recovering from the slowdown seen in the September quarter, which is being boosted by strong festive activity and continued growth in rural demand. Indian stock markets remained closed on Wednesday on the occasion of Christmas. Brent crude, the global oil standard, rose 0.41 percent to $73.88 a barrel. Earlier on Tuesday, the 30-share BSE index had fallen 67.30 points, or 0.09 per cent, to close at 78,472.87 points. Nifty had closed at 23,727.65 points, down 25.80 points or 0.11 percent.
