Citibank CEO met Finance Minister, became a fan of Indian payment system

New Delhi| Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met Citibank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jane Fraser discussed decadal reforms and the banking sector in view of India’s future.
Sharing information on social media platform X, the Finance Ministry wrote that the two discussed the use of AI in important sectors like agriculture and urban development as well as India’s rapidly growing pharmaceutical sector. Jane Fraiser lauds Finance Minister for India’s digital payments transformation.
The CEO of Citibank appreciated the significant reforms undertaken by India in creating infrastructure to create an environment for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and said that it is important to make MSMEs a part of supply chains. In the meeting, Fraser said that the steps taken by the Government of India towards ease of doing business will streamline the trade processes.
The Finance Minister also met Lawrence Douglas Fink, CEO of BlackRock, a global investment and financial services company. The two discussed opportunities for global investors as well as funding Greentech and battery storage through NIIF and IFSC GiftCity. After meeting the Finance Minister, Fink said BlackRock is working with private partners in India, especially focusing on infrastructure development.
