New Delhi| The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) could increase the productivity of the $254 billion Indian IT industry by 43-45 per cent in the next five years. This increase in productivity will span 500 roles. According to a survey conducted by consulting firm EY India, top IT companies like Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys are using AI in new projects. 89 percent of clients from top IT companies have started testing the generative AI project, with 33 percent already using it in production.

The survey states that productivity in software development roles will increase most by about 60 per cent. This will be followed by a 52 per cent improvement in BPO services and a 47 per cent improvement in IT consultancy. This trio (software development, BPO services and IT consultancy) will contribute 50-60 per cent to the improvement of the overall productivity of technical services.

Abhinav Johri, technology consulting partner, EY India, said companies are moving beyond experimentation to using AI in mass production. This shift reflects industry confidence in the potential of AI. Officials surveyed say that the increasing use of AI is not only helping the ET industry increase customer service, but is also improving revenue growth along with reducing costs.
