WEF: Leaders from around the world called for WEF – ‘Steps related to AI and regional reforms should be taken

New Delhi| Leaders from around the world called for action on the uncontrolled spread of artificial intelligence (AI) during the five-day annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). This annual meeting will conclude on Friday. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, in his special address, appealed for reform of the EU’s social media governance to curb misinformation and cyber harassment.

He stressed on implementing the Digital Services Act in a more stringent manner and expanding the powers of the European Center for Transparency. He stressed that ‘‘European Union values are not for sale.’’ He appealed for more funding to be provided for research on social media algorithms. According to him, it will ensure that Europe’s most talented people find solutions to this important challenge.

UN Secretary-General Antonia Guterres issued a stern warning on two growing global threats, the uncontrolled expansion of artificial intelligence and the climate crisis. He cautioned that these challenges pose unprecedented risks to humanity. Immediate integrated action should be taken by governments and the private sector in this direction.

Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tsilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, announced the construction of a green corridor for the world’s largest tropical forest conservation. It will protect more than 550,000 square kilometers of forest cover in the Congo River basin from Kivu to Kinshasa. Meanwhile, Syria’s Foreign Minister Assad Hassan al-Shaibani outlined plans for the new government weeks after the sudden collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime.
